Adult AD/HD
AD/HD amongst adults is common and typically also affects executive skills such as organization, planning, execution (finishing), and therefore affects self esteem and motivation. It can be difficult to diagnose and often requires specialty assessment. Many adults aren’t aware that they have AD/HD—they just feel challenged by everyday tasks. There is a heavy genetic loading and as a result, parents recognize AD/HD symptoms in themselves when their child is diagnosed with the disorder. Some may have struggled with symptoms in childhood, but without proper diagnosis. Studies suggest that between 30% and 70% of children with AD/HD continue to have symptoms as adults.
